System Requirements

enCompassing Visions is a Web application. The access to the system is entirely through the user’s Internet Explorer browser. The data resides in SQL Server and it is possible, and in some cases preferable, for the data to reside on a different server from the application.

The following system requirements are considered minimum requirements. Better performance for large installations can be achieved with more powerful servers and more memory.

Application Server

• Windows Server 2000 with SP4, Windows Server 2003 R2 or Windows Server 2008 (64-32)
• 512 Mb Ram
• Internet Information Service Version 6 or 7
• If using Reporting Services for enCompassing Visions, the appropriate .NET Framework and report viewer must be installed on the Application Server
• The installed application for the latest version requires 100 MB of space
• The application can be run within a virtual environment

Microsoft Components

These Microsoft components are required for the installation of enCompassing Visions. If not already present on the server, all are readily available from the Microsoft web site at:

• Microsoft Scripting Engine
• Microsoft XML Parser
• Microsoft Data Access Components

SQL Server

• SQL Server 2000, 2005 or 2008
• The “empty” database created during the installation process requires 10 Mb of space. The database will grow over time depending on the number of jobs and employees utilized. Contact enCompassing Visions Technical Support for more information about database size.

Notes:

• SQL Server needs to be running in Mixed Authentication Mode. The enCompassing Visions application requires SQL Authentication rather than NT Authentication.
• If utilizing the Reporting Services option, Reporting Services from SQL 2005 or 2008 must be utilized (not SQL 2000). Either can be made to access a SQL 2000 database if desired.

SQL Mail

enCompassing Visions provides the enCompassing Visions System Administrator option to send E-Mail reminders and notifications through the application. This functionality is completely optional and the application is installed by default with this functionality turned off. The notifications can be sent using SQL Mail (for SQL2000/2005/2008) or DBMail (SQL2005/2008). An upgrade to version 9.1.1 is required in order to use DBMail. Client

The client requires a Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 Operating System with Internet Explorer 6, 7 or 8. Other browsers will not work at this time.

Notes:

• Any enCompassing Visions User may be required to download an ActiveX Control (used for data retrieval) to their desktop depending on the functions they perform. They will be prompted to download the first time the control is required.
• Some of the windows in the application are treated by Internet Explorer as pop-ups so all users must allow pop-ups for the enCompassing Visions installation.
• While Internet Explorer 6 will still function, the visual appearance will not be as crisp due to our move to .png files instead of .gif files for transparent images. We recommend IE7 or IE8.

We are in the midst of a multi-year project to make the application Browser independent so it will run on any browser and no longer require the ActiveX control download or modifications to the pop-up blocker settings. Until that project is complete it is necessary to run IE8 in compatibility mode.

Version Compatibility

The application has evolved as the technology has evolved but not all historical versions of enCompassing Visions are compatible with all technology. The following chart identifies version compatibility. Note that we currently offer mainstream support for versions 8.8.2 and newer. Older versions can still be supported under special circumstances but these older versions may not be compatible with newer architecture.

IE7	Version 8.7 or later
IE8	Version 9.1 or later	Version 9.0 has been shown to run for many clients on IE8 but only Version 9.1 has been certified by enCompassing Visions. IE8 must5 be run in compatibility mode.
Windows XP	All versions
Windows Vista	Version 9.0 or later	Versions 8.7 and newer have all been tested using Windows Vista but there are occasional issues depending on the Service Pack installed so only Version 9.0 or later are certified.
Windows 7	Version 9.1 or later	While older versions may work, only Version 9.1 is certified to work with Windows 7 assuming IE8 as the browser.
